Press Release, 24th June 2016
Scana propulsion and Inpower have developed Thorque+, the first permanent magnet motor approved by DNV GL for use as propulsion motor with a Redundancy Type R3. The Thorque+ system features fuel saving, reduced maintenance and space saving in a diesel-electric driven vessel.
Scana Propulsion and Inpower have together developed the Thorque™ product series, an effective and compact permanent magnet motor with integrated thrust- and pitch mechanism for controllable pitch propellers.
Thorque+ is a continued development of this technology, an increased reliability machine compliant with current Rules of DNV GL, which allows Thorque+ to be used as a propulsion motor in single screw configurations (1Thorque+ PM-motor and 1 propeller in a propulsion line). The compact Thorque+ is ideal for vessels with high requirements to space utilisation.
Thorque™ is patented.
The first delivery of Thorque+ is for a longliner for the Icelandic shipowner Stormur Seafood. The delivery consists of a Thorque+ at 750kW directly connected to a shaftline with a fixed pitch propeller. The conversion of the longliner will take place at Alkor Shipyard in Poland, and the equipment will be delivered from Scana Propulsion in Q4 2016.
